The Local Authority Challenge

"Are You Ready For A Challenge?"

Local government is facing a time of unprecedented change like never seen before. Councils are being forced to find new ways to deliver more for less due to severe constraints on funding.

There is a need to produce services that offer people greater choice and control over their daily lives and to engage actively with the public to develop them. Tackling these issues can only be done in conjunction with re-training and re-motivating staff to cope with the challenge this presents.

The workforce also needs to be able to adapt not just to any immediate changes, but to be flexible enough to continually adapt to any roles that may be required in the future.

The East of England Local Authority Challenge, designed and delivered by Breckland Training Services (in conjunction with the East of England Local Government Association), is now in its fourth year. In 2015 BTS also delivered events in the West Midlands (for Mansfield and Ashfield District Councils) and in the South West (on behalf of the South West Councils). Furthermore, a mini-local authority challenge was delivered to the Public Bubble (on behalf of the Local Government Association) and similar simulation style management training exercises were delivered to both the education and private sectors.

Throughout the latter half of 2016 BTS will deliver at least 4 local authority challenges - The East of England, East Midlands, South West England and West Midlands.
